ABOUT
We are passionate about being a music school that produces real musicians and that means teaching you how to join bands, jam, write songs, rehearse together, gig, and record. We also get to see our band members make awesome new friends, learn to connect and negotiate, and express themselves within a team.
These bands each have a fortnightly one hour band session with a brilliant band mentor. Our band mentors are all genuine professional musicians. The band program is led by the legendary Aaron Shanahan from Miami Horror, who have toured internationally for years and released hit after hit.
The adventure each band goes on is tailored to what the members of the band hope to achieve and where they are at on their musical journeys. The current general structure for a band at The Buttery is as follows:
Term 1 - Learning covers
Term 2 - Songwriting
Term 3 - Performing (all bands perform at BUTTERFEST - The Buttery annual music festival
Term 4 - Recording (with the opportunity to record an original song at our partner studio in Mount Glorious, Tallowood Studios ). Check out past student recording below!
We also have ties with 4ZZZ where we have had bands perform on Right Here Right Now, as well as many venues throughout Brisbane.
OTHER OPPORTUNITIES AT THE BUTTERY:
Alongside music lessons and band programs, The Buttery runs a bunch of extra adventures for our rad students such as:
BUTTERFEST - The annual Buttery mini festival where all our bands and students rock out on stage. The day is filled with rock star stuff like VIP artist lanyards, temporary tattoo parlours, photo studios, interviews, lights, smoke, and the entire Buttery community coming to soak up the tunes.
School holiday workshops and band camps
Many other recording and performing opportunities for the bands, plus opportunities to make music videos and learn about the industry.
Watch out for information on these awesome opportunities on our website, Facebook, Instagram and emails.

This is the first of many collections of Buttery student bands recording their original tunes up at Tallowood Studios thanks to Josephson Records. This could be you!
These guys spent the year jamming and writing their own songs, and then spent the day in a professional music studio. They came out with awesome experiences and an amazing song! These songs are now on Spotify and played regularly on 4zzz radio.
