PAST BUTTERY WORKSHOPS AND EVENTS:
We are always planning new workshops and events to help our crew to keep making friends, learning new skills, develop as musicians, and score opportunities to rock out. Here is a little taste of past events!
Open Mics:
We’ve hosted a few free, all ages open mic nights and jam sessions both at our space, and at awesome venues such as BEMAC.
Sensory Friendly Cinema Screenings:
We love the movies, so sometimes we hit up our buddies at New Farm Cinemas to put on a special sensory friendly screening of a latest movie for us all to hit as a crew!
A sensory-friendly screening has lower sound levels, dimmed lights (instead of being completely dark), and a welcoming environment where the chatters and wrigglers can feel comfortable.
Songwriting Workshops:
We hold songwriting workshops throughout each year, both at The Buttery as well as in other spaces! We tailor each workshop to the age group and demographic we are working with.
Some of the things you can get out of songwriting workshops with The Buttery:
Make a bunch of awesome new friends
Learn about song structure, songwriting, and techniques for writing lyrics and putting a song together
A bunch of art, craft, drama and music games
Write songs from scratch as an entire group, in smaller groups or bands, and by yourself
Learn to express yourself through song
Learn how different chords, melodies and rhythms affect the emotion of a song
Build Your Own Guitar Workshop:
Join us as we walk you through step by step how to build your own guitar, and then take your new guitar home with you! We provide you with the entire guitar building kit and all the tools needed.
Gig Residencies:
Obviously one of our biggest passions is developing brilliant musicians, so part of that is providing awesome gig opportunities. An example is in 2023, we collaborated with the legends at Five Star Cinemas to provide live music every Friday night 6 - 7:30pm, where one of our legendary Buttery students would nestle into the corner of the awesome Red Hill Cinemas foyer/ pizza bar to rock some originals and covers. This was for many of them, their very first experience rocking a full gig!
