about
Did you know that The Buttery Music School started off purely as a drum school? Needless to say, we have honed the craft of teaching drums, and we have a deep passion for doing it. Here at The Buttery Music School we tailor our drum lessons to the individual student, while also pulling from The Buttery Curriculum and Buttery Song Books to provide consistently fun and exciting lessons that allow students to gain strong, in depth knowledge and skills on the drums.
Our in depth lessons provide everything you need plus more to achieve your drumming dreams, including the basics of rhythm and timing, coordination, dynamics, endless beats and fills for playing many genres such as rock, pop, funk, soul and country, learning how to improvise and play with others, and the subtle art of good musicianship and how to hold a band together as the drummer. All of our drum lessons are of course curated to what our students need, giving you the opportunity to go on any journey you want - whether it be releasing pent up frustrations or becoming a world class musician.
These lessons are taught on an acoustic drum kit, where your drum teacher is able to play along at the same time as you, so you are not simply following instructions - you are able to follow by example, play in time together, and even improvise with each other.
OTHER OPPORTUNITIES AT THE BUTTERY:
Alongside music lessons, The Buttery runs a bunch of extra adventures for our rad students such as:
An epic talent show each year where all students have the chance to perform
School holiday workshops and band camps.
Each year we take 4 student bands up to our good friends at Tallowood Studios in Mount Glorious to record an original song they have written in their band sessions
Watch out for information on these awesome opportunities on our website, Facebook, Instagram and emails.

JOSH WRIGHT
Josh began playing the drums at age 7 and started gigging around the Perth Music Scene at age 12 with his band. His love for music started with Mum and Dads music collection but he later went on to develop his own sound and interest while studying at the Western Australian Academy of Performing arts studying both Contemporary and Jazz music.
Over the last 8 years of his professional career Josh has toured nationally and internationally with artists such as Blake Rose, Dulcie, Sly Withers and Supathick supporting the likes of artists such as Mimi Webb, Dean Lewis, Ocean Alley, King Stingray and Amy Shark as well as playing festivals including Listen Out, Falls Festival and Rhythm & Vine and can be heard on countless recordings.
Having had such nurturing mentors who have helped develop his love of music, he has grown a strong passion to pass on this mentoring at The Buttery and to show all the amazing possibilities music has to offer.
